Test: Craft should be familiar to every runner and biker. The Swedish manufacturer did pioneering work in the field of functional underwear more than 30 years ago, but gloves have also been an integral part of the portfolio for many years. We took a closer look at the Craft Storm Glove.
Even putting on the Storm Glove for the first time is an aha experience. Sits, fits, has air. The gloves fit snugly but are still comfortable and offer enough room for the hand without being able to slip. It doesn't get much better than that – at least that's what we thought. Because when you sit on the bike and grab the handlebars, it becomes clear: only now does the Storm Glove sit as it should. All levers are within easy reach, the glove doesn't pinch or pull, and the handlebars are comfortable to hold. Perfect.
The surface consists of a windproof and water-repellent softshell material that makes a robust impression. The many reflective applications on the back of the hand are a safety bonus that should not be underestimated - not only in autumn and winter. The waistband of the Storm Gloves consists of a thick neoprene fabric that is supposed to keep the wrist warm even in the rain. With the terry cloth trimmings on the thumb, sweat can be quickly wiped off the forehead at any time.
The palm of the glove is minimalistic: no padding, only a large area, non-slip silicone prints appear. Unfortunately, users of touchscreens also look down the drain with the Storm Gloves. The lining of the glove is heavily roughened and the seams on the inside are all nice and soft and don't pinch uncomfortably.
In the cold of late autumn, the glove performs quite well despite its thin material. Wind cannot harm them at all and even light rain does not pose a serious problem thanks to the highly water-repellent fabric. However, if the temperature drops below 5°C, the gloves understandably have some problems. The fingers in particular then get cold quite quickly. The Storm Gloves are simply not designed for that.
