Lifestyle: The state parliament in Baden-Württemberg has decided. Despite the almost 60.000 signatures that the Petitions Committee had collected in advance, the two meter legislation on Baden-Württemberg forest roads, which is unpopular with many bikers, remains in place.
Last Thursday, the members of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament voted to retain the two-meter legislation. A reason for the decision was not provided. This means that it will remain illegal for cyclists to ride on forest roads that are less than two meters wide. A petitions committee initiated by the DIMB collected almost 60.000 signatures last year for the abolition of this legislation (we reported). With the decision of the state parliament, this initiative has now failed. A pity.
Update: The reason for the rejection by the state parliament is now available. The decision is primarily justified by the fact that the regulation represents a balance of interests for forest users. The information that cyclists pose a high risk potential and that the free development of the bikers is subordinate to the physical integrity of other forest users causes frowns. Time will tell to what extent such legislation really contributes to reconciling interests and easing the situation.
