Triathlon: For the first time an Ironman was held in Barcelona. The victory was made by two Spaniards among themselves.
Clemente Alonso-McKernan showed ambitions from the start and was one of the first starters from the Mediterranean. On the bike, however, he initially lost out to Konstantin Bachor. With a lead of almost 6 minutes, he finally switched to running shoes, but had to be overtaken by Alonso-McKernan and Miquel Blanchart Tinto during the marathon.
In the women's event, the Austrian Eva Wutti won after 8:49:21 hours ahead of the Danish long-distance world champion Camilla Pedersen and the British Susie Hignett.
