Cycling: After 236 kilometers from Tarnow to Katowice, the Belgian Jonas Vangenechten (Lotto-Belisol) celebrated his first win of the season. In a gripping sprint final, he won ahead of the Italian Jacopo Guarnieri (Astana) and the Slovenian Luka Mezgec (Giant-Shimano).
In the overall standings, 22-year-old Czech Petr Vakoc (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) maintained his lead. Austria's Matthias Krizek (Cannondale) is now the new second. In third place is Belarusian Yauheni Hutarovich (Ag2R La Mondiale).
The stage was largely determined by a top trie. However, Krizek, Joshua Edmondson (Sky) and Mateusz Taciak (CCC Polsat) were kept on a short leash in front of the field. It didn't help that two more drivers joined the trio in the finale. The escape was over 8 kilometers from the finish. After that Maciej Paterski (CCC Polsat) and Thor Hushovd (BMC) tried their luck in vain. In the last kilometer the front of the field was together. On the downhill stretch, Vangenecht had the most reserves of energy.
