Test: The Layana is a typical everyday pedelec, which of course also cuts a fine figure as a touring bike - greetings are given around Lake Constance and river tours.
With its long wheelbase, which is also due to the position of the battery, it is smooth-running and stable; the deep step-through allows for easy ascent and descent. A typical feature of the city pedelec is the hub gear, here a Shimano Nexus-8 with back pedal, which complements the two hydraulic rim brakes. The lighting system is fed by a hub dynamo, so that you are not left in the dark even when the battery is completely empty.
The lack of suspension components is unusual for an everyday e-bike, but given the upright riding position, which largely relieves the front wheel, that's not a big deal. The omission of the suspension fork saves around a kilo of weight, a suspension seat post could easily be retrofitted.
Manufacturer Kettler supplies a matching bag that can be hung on the luggage rack; a frame-mounted ring lock is useful for short-term parking if you don't want to dig out the big U-lock. A typical feature of this bike class are the bent-back handlebar ends, which enable a comfortable, relaxed arm position. Also typical of this class is the adjustable stem, which allows easy adjustment of the handlebar height.
With brown tires and a chrome lamp, the Layana comes in the current retro look; Trains and cables are routed inside the frame, as is usual today.

(1) Velomotion tests the range of all e-bikes under maximum conditions. The test lap is 9,8 km long and with 171 meters of altitude difference it is very tough and sometimes very steep. The system weight of bike and rider should be 120 kg (± 5 kg). Lighter drivers receive additional weights. Driving is at maximum support level and also very quickly. This is the only way to determine honest and comparable values. You can expect to get at least twice the range with a medium assist level and on less undulating terrain.
Incidentally, with most systems you have a small range reserve, similar to that of a car. Even if the battery shows 0 km, there is still one to five kilometers left with a moderate driving style.
