Cycling: The reigning junior time trial world champion, Igor Decraene, passed away last night at the age of 18. This was reported by various Belgian media.
Decraene won the title against the clock in Florence last year and was considered one of the brightest prospects in Belgian cycling. This year he was struggling with injuries but had been nominated by the Belgian federation for the forthcoming World Championships in Ponferrada.
As also emerges from the Belgian media, Decraene is said to have taken his own life. However, other sources report that he was hit by a train on his way home from a birthday party and that it was an accident.
