cycling: Paris-Roubaix: No banned substances in dubious pill ampoule

July 2, 2014 by the editorial office

Roubaix

Cycling: The World Cycling Union (UCI) announced today that no banned substances were found in the vial of pills a fan picked up on the side of the road after it was said to have fallen out of a rider's pocket during Paris-Roubaix.

A British fan had picked up the ampoule and given it to a laboratory. He stated at the time that a driver had fallen out of his jersey. The content of the ampoule was examined by the UCI and the Cycling Anti-Doping Foundation (CADF). The result: the ampoule contained ibuprofen, caffeine, theophylline and quinine. None of the substances are on the WADA Prohibited List.
