Test: There are a few mountain bike shoes on the market that are particularly suitable for competition-oriented riders. Yet few attempt to match what the Specialized Pro XC tried to bring together.

With a price of just under 230 euros, the shoe is anything but cheap. However, it has special features that should justify this price.

equipment and practice

At just 349 grams, it belongs Pro XC to the lightweights. It is provided with a soft tongue and two Velcro fasteners and a Boa system on the instep. The latter is worked in such a way that it can be easily replaced in the event of damage.

The soft synthetic material on the upper foot nestles comfortably against the foot. The shoe is reinforced in the heel area, so that you get a stable position in the shoe. The carbon-reinforced sole made of composite material should contribute to this as well as to the kicking performance. This also features a thermoplastic rubber profile and threaded inserts for the cleats.

The footbed of Pro XC is created on the basis of our own specifications and can be individually adapted by certified dealers using wedges.

special_6

It shows in action Pro XC at his best. Choosing half a size larger, it also fits riders with a rather wide forefoot. Thanks to the stiff sole and in conjunction with an adapted insole, there is a lot of pressure on the pedals off-road. Should you ever have to get off your bike, the sole offers good grip – on both dry and wet surfaces. However, longer running passages are somewhat uncomfortable due to the stiff sole.

The soft upper material adapts well to the shape of the foot. Thanks to the different closure systems, the shoe can be easily adjusted and, depending on the situation, easily readjusted.

Conclusion

The Specialized Pro XC is a shoe for ambitious bikers and cyclocrossers. It is well cut and very well made. The Body GeometryAfter an individual adjustment, the footbed also guarantees a very good footing in the shoe - the prerequisite for pain-free rides and a lot of pressure on the pedal.
