Triathlon: The Belgian Bart Aernouts follows in the footsteps of Frederik van Lierde with his victory at the Ironman Nice. After an exciting race, he relegated the Spaniard Victor Del Corral to second place. Third place went to Tyler Butterfield, who represents Bermuda. Tine Deckers, a Belgian, also won the women's race.
Aernouts had held back while swimming. At the first exchange, he was more than a minute behind the Frenchman Jeremy Jurkiewicz. On the bike, he gradually increased his lead until the Belgian got serious.
In the pouring rain, Aernouts pushed his way to the top. He finally completed the second change as second. After that there was no stopping him. After almost ten kilometers he had already taken the lead on the final run. And shouldn't let it out of your hands. Behind him, the Spaniard Del Corral in particular ran a great race. Changed as 13th, he finally finished the race as second thanks to an outstanding marathon. He also kept Butterfield in check. As the best German, Christian Brader came in fifth.
In the women's competition, Deckers dominated for much of the competition. In the end she won clearly ahead of the Americans Caitlin Snow and Lisa Roberts.
