cycling: 17th tour participation: Jens Voigt writes history

June 26, 2014 by the editorial office

knock2

Cycling: Jens Voigt from Berlin will make history. The 42-year-old Berliner was called up for the Tour de France by his Trek Factory Racing team.

I would rather be ahead in the ranking of most stage wins.
Voigt will draw level with the American George Hincapie and the Australian Stuart O'Grady, who also competed 17 times in France. However, the record itself means little to him. He told the Stuttgarter Nachrichten that he "would rather be ahead of the most stage wins rankings."

Even before the selection, he had been skeptical. "I'm 42 now - you don't get stronger and faster then. [...]It is more likely that the odds are only 40:60.” Now he is in France and is happy: “The tour outshines everything, it's the greatest adventure in the world. That's where heroes are made.”

Voigt was last in action at Critérium du Dauphiné and was represented there several times in top groups.
