The Rothaus Hegau Bike-Marathon also plays an important role in the long-distance specialists' calendar this year. The Rothaus Hegau Bike-Marathon has made a name for itself in the long-distance scene with the European Championships and hosting the German Championship twice, so it was no longer surprising that the UCI included the event in southern Baden in the Marathon World Series category. As part of the UCI Marathon World Series, the marathon on May 11th in Singen is an important date for qualifying for the national team and is therefore one of the last chances to qualify for the World Championships in South Africa. The route concept remains the same as at the European Championships held last year.
As in the previous year, the route over two times 49 kilometers is reserved for licensed drivers. And it is only over these 98 kilometers (80 for women) that you can also qualify for the marathon world championships in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. This takes place only seven weeks after the Rothaus Hegau Bike-Marathon on June 29th. This means that May 11 is the penultimate date in Europe for drivers to qualify for the World Championship. A place in the top 20 in Singen or a place in the top 50 in the overall ranking of the Marathon World Series should mean that the riders are allowed to start in Pietermaritzburg.
At the European Marathon Championships in 2013, Austria's Alban Lakata and Switzerland's Esther Süss were able to secure the titles and are also considered big favorites this year.
