German cyclocross fans can already mark the weekend of November 8th and 9th, 2014 in their calendars. Then the European title fights in the categories women, U23 and juniors will be held in Lorsch as part of the GGEW City Cross Cup. “As the title sponsor, we are delighted that the Cyclocross European Championships [...] will take place in Lorsch", GGEW board member Dr. Peter Müller during a press conference ahead.
This decision by the European Cycling Union (UEC) means that one of the most important German cross-country events is gaining in prestige. "That is a huge leap of faith that my team from RV Einhausen and I have received from the International Cycling Federation", says Algis Oleknavicius, the organizer of the GGEW City Cross Cup.
The fact that the UEC, in addition to the Cyclo-Cross European Championships in the Masters, awards the title fights to Lorsch is a confirmation of the efforts made so far. “Lorsch is a first-class address and has deservedly made a name for itself. Here we find top-class competition venues and an organization that is not only perfect, but can also be called extremely professional. We are glad that Algis Oleknavicius immediately agreed to host the 2014 full European Cross Specialists Championships.”, said Martin Wolf, Secretary General of the Federation of German Cyclists and representative of the UEC. In addition to the title fights, fans of the elite will not miss out either. The planned C1 race will also take place. This was emphasized by the sporting director of the event, Walter Wahl: "It's a great event in Lorsch. In addition to the European Championships, there is also a C1 race in Lorsch. It's unbelievable and demands everything from him and his team. It's going to be a weekend that Germany hasn't seen before."
