Cyclecross European Championship: World champions Del Carmen Alvarado & Kamp celebrate home wins

7 November 2020 by Michael Behringer

Cycle Cross Championship Alvarado

Cycling: As expected, the Netherlands dominated the European Cycling Cross Championships in Rosmalen. While Ceylin Del Carmen Alvarado was celebrating in the women's category, Ryan Kamp won in the men's U23 class. This means that the two current world champions can also look forward to the European title.

Dutch championships at the EM

No, it wasn't the Dutch Championships that were held in Rosmalen today. Even if it looked different, nine nations took part in the European cyclocross championships. However, only the women of the Oranje could be seen. Already early in the race could Ceylin Del Carmen Alvarado and Anne Marie Worst stand out from their competitors. Although Lucinda Brand was able to catch up and even attack in the meantime, but in the end it was only enough for them to win bronze. In the end, the world champion won the fight for gold. Especially thanks to her nimble legs during the running passages, Ceylin Del Carmen Alvarado repeatedly got her companion into trouble. The top result of the Dutch women completed Denise Betsema with fourth place. Best Swiss woman Zina Barhoumi on the 18, while riders from Germany and Austria did not take part in this year's cyclists' European Championships.

Home win for world champion Ryan Kamp

In Rosmalen near 's-Hertogenbosch, the men's U23 class worked the course ahead of the women. The Dutch weren't quite as dominant here, but in the end a man in orange – or rather: in the world champion's jersey – cheered. With a time of 51:28, the reigning world champion also proved to be the strongest driver in the field at the European Championships. Ryan Camp left the British duo with 12 and 13 seconds respectively Thomas Mein and cameron mason behind. No professionals from Germany and Austria took part. The best Swiss was seventh Loris Rouiller.
