The Belgian Kristof Goddeart, teammate of Roger Kluge and Heinrich Haussler in the Swiss team IAM, died in an accident during a training session in Antwerp. According to information from Nieuwsblad.be, the front wheel of the 27-year-old wedged itself in the railroad tracks, causing him to fall. A bus driving behind him could no longer avoid it and rolled over him.

His team was shocked by the accident: "We think first of his family and those close to him and offer them our deepest condolences", says team manager Michel Thétaz.

Goddaert had just returned from Qatar a few days ago, where he was preparing for the spring classics as part of the Tour of Qatar. In the overall standings, he finished 34th. The Belgian raced for teams Davitamon-Win for Life, Topsport Vlaanderen and Ag2R-La Mondiale during his eight-year professional career before joining Team IAM at the end of 2012. His biggest success was second place at the Belgian Championships in Geel 2012 behind Tom Boonen (Omega Pharma-QuickStep).
