British cyclist Sir Bradley Wiggins (Sky) was officially knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in London today. In a subsequent interview, he expressed his awe, albeit a touch of bewilderment, at the atmosphere. "It's quite strange to be honored as a sportsman in a room with all these veterans ," said Wiggins. He has held the title since last autumn, having received it for his sporting achievements, most notably his victory at the Tour de France and his gold medal at the London Olympics.
That sport is more his forte was something he left no doubt about later in the interview. "I want to ride the Tour de France again next year and also achieve a similar form to 2012 ," said Wiggins, who did not comment on his relationship with Chris Froome (Sky) in this context. "My long-term goal, however, is the Games in Rio. There I want to win a fifth Olympic gold medal." Ambitious goals for a rider whose current season has been marked by injuries and disappointments.
