cycling: Munsterland Giro: Jos van Emden solo in Munster

3 October 2013 by Veit Hammer

belkin

Marcel Kittel (Argos-Shimano) announced in the morning that he would not start. A cold plagued the Arnstadt player, who had previously been considered a favourite. For the race constellation, however, his resignation should be exciting.

Shortly after the start, Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-QuickStep) broke away from the field along with ten other drivers, but was not able to pull away decisively. The preliminary decision was then made after almost 100 kilometers, when a five-man lead with Jos Van Emden (Belkin), Tom Veelers (Argos-Shimano), Iljo Keisse (Omega Pharma-Quick-Step), Michael Van Staeyen (Topsport Vlaanderen-Baloise ) and Dylan Van Baarle (Rabobank Development). The group worked well together and was able to keep his lead until the end. Shortly before the finish in Münster, Van Emden attacked and secured the laurels solo. After 2007, it was the second victory for the Dutchman at the Münsterland Giro.
