General: XCE World Cup remains

September 5, 2013 by the editorial team

XCE1

The future of the XCE World Cup has seemed very vague in recent weeks. The Olympic Committee did not agree to the application by the UCI to include the discipline and was therefore not part of the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. The announcement left doubts about how the XC Eliminator would develop and whether it would still be represented in the 2014 World Cup.

XCE2

To find the best possible solution, the largest World Cup teams met with MTB coordinator for the endurance disciplines, Simon Burney. After several variants were discussed, the Swiss association came up with an alternative proposal. This stipulates that the elimination races will be included in the overall World Cup ranking. The proposal was not only well received by the team. The German association also seems to agree with the proposed version. According to Burney, however, this will not be enforceable before 2015. The XCE World Cup will therefore remain in place for the coming 2014 season and will be held at the respective XC venues.
