The Danish Ironman European Champion Camilla Pedersen sustained skull fractures in a serious training accident and was put into an artificial coma by the doctors treating her. "Her condition is critical but stable", coach Michael Krüger told the Danish media. The serious accident happened during a training drive near the Danish city of Esbjerg. Pedersen collided with a car that was braking in front of her to let a group of children across the street. The Danish long-distance figurehead was considered one of the favorites for the Ironman World Championships on October 12 in Hawaii. With her victory in Frankfurt she had qualified for it.
