After the 4X World Championship was moved from Pietermaritzburg/RSA to Leogang/AUT due to organizational and financial discrepancies, the German Cyclists' Association now announced the team for the World Championship from September 20th to 21st.
While many drivers have already qualified for the World Championship in several races by fulfilling the nomination criteria, there was a training camp on the World Championship track for the remaining places. There all drivers trained together to prepare as best as possible for the world championship. After three days of intensive training, a final time qualification was used to determine who would fill the vacancies in the national team.
Thus, the World Championship team is led by the reigning German Champion Steffi Marth and the German Junior Champion from 2012, Benedikt Last. Other drivers are: Stefan Scherz, Aiko Göhler, Benjamin Ehrlich, Rick Schubert, Klaus Beige, Guido Tschugg, Laura Brethauer, Jessica Schmulbach, Anna Börschig, Tanja Hendrysiak, Sarah Gerlach and Julia Lackas. The only 17-year-old Ingo Kaufmann was set up as a substitute driver for the men.
