Cycling: One of the big highlights of the MTB scene is on the calendar for the coming weekend. The UCI MTB World Cup and the 26 Trix Event invite you to Leogang. In addition to the best downhill racers, the top slope stylers will also be at the start, so you can look forward to a double pack of action.
The stars of the scene approaching Saalfelden Leogang – three years after Greg Minnaar was crowned world champion in Leogang, the South African is returning from Fort William as the freshly crowned World Cup winner to Leogang soil and thus back to one of his favorite courses. Brit Rachel Atherton is also traveling to Leogang with victory number 21 in her luggage as the clear favorite, even though she has not yet been able to win a World Cup on the Speedster course: “I quite like the upper technical jumps. It's a physically demanding track, so strength and power are key to success. And this year I'm feeling strong", Atherton underlines her ambition to win.
In 2015, the Speedster track is more technically demanding than ever, explains organizer Kornel Grundner: “A few fast track sections have been added. The new finish jump is even bigger and more spectacular and makes the finish area the ideal place for spectators.”
The first teams, including the MS Racing team of Austria's number 1, Markus Pekoll, have already pitched their tents in Leogang. For Pekoll, the World Cup in Leogang is like a new start to the season. Although the Schladminger felt fit again after his crash in the opener in Lourdes, he failed to qualify for the final in Scotland for the first time since 2012: “Experiencing the second World Cup final in a row as a spectator at the finish was a new and not very nice situation for me. But now it's time to look ahead, start over and work upwards again. So everyone come to Leogang for the World Cup and let's celebrate our sport together. Home World Cup is always great - anyone who has never been there should definitely see it, then you'll get the right feeling for it."
Manuel Gruber (42nd) and David Trummer (48th), the two best-placed Austrians in Fort William, are no less excited about the home World Cup. For Manuel Gruber, Leogang is one of the best World Cup stops of the season: "The finish area in Leogang is really great and a real experience both for us drivers and of course for the spectators."
David Trummer also has a lot to make up for in Leogang. After his chain snapped right at the start in Fort William and he was unable to pedal, he still managed to qualify with an incredible run, completely unpowered. The hopes for the home World Cup are correspondingly high.
There are also many highlights apart from sports: The Out of Bounds Festival from 11.-14. In addition to spectacular bike action, June also offers a sensational supporting program for the spectators. Among others, Hannes Arch will herald the big World Cup showdown in Leogang (Sunday, June 14, from 12.00:XNUMX p.m.) with his spectacular air show.
The stars of the dirt jump scene, who will provide a special kind of trick fireworks at the 26TRIX, will start things off. At the tenth edition of the legendary FMB World Tour Gold Event, numerous former winners can't help but fight for the highest score on June 13th. The spectators also have the opportunity to put their skills to the test and give their all on the bikes at the Whip Contest and the Pumptrack Race.
