Riva Bike Festival 2023 / E-MTB: Is a new motor from Bosch in the starting blocks? At the Riva Bike Festival 2023, we discovered a prototype at the stand of the drive giant that arouses curiosity.
A motor covered with "Erlkönig" film at the Bosch E-Bike Systems stand at this year's Riva Bike Festival indicates that exciting innovations can be expected here in the near future. The scales on which the complete bike, in which the unknown drive is installed, are hanging are causing a stir - they show a weight of just over 16 kg. This suggests the first "Light Assist" motor from Bosch.
Even if we don't have any information about the drive under the black and white film at this point in time, it is very likely that Bosch will be presenting a completely new drive system here. Unfortunately, the shape of the motor unit is difficult to recognize, as it is not clear under the foil where the motor mount of the frame ends and the actual motor begins; however, it should be clear that at least the weight is saved properly. A full-suspension e-mountain bike with a Bosch drive weighing around 16 kg, as seen in Riva, would hardly be feasible with one of the well-known drives - even if the bike on display is very light overall.
Unsurprisingly, there was silence at the stand, but a tap test on the down tube of the carbon bike revealed that it doesn't appear to be completely hollow. Accordingly, a battery could actually already be installed here - which would make the weight all the more impressive.
We can't yet say if and when this new light drive from Bosch will be officially presented - but the small "Coming Soon" sign on the exhibition stand suggests that it won't be too long... and this year's Eurobike is only just around the corner two months away. It definitely remains exciting on the e-bike market!
