Cycling: Magnus Cort has won the second stage of the Volta ao Algarve. The Dane didn't let himself be left behind in the elimination round of the Ineos Grenadiers team. In the uphill sprint for the day's victory, he was not seen for a long time, but then he passed everyone. Now he is also the overall leader.
Magnus Cort shocks the already jubilant Van Wilder
Ilan Van Wilder (Soudal – Quick-Step) threw up his arms after 186,3 kilometers from Sagres to Alto da Fóia. The Belgian thought he had won stage two of the Volta ao Algarve - but he didn't. Magnus Court (EF Education – EasyPost) overtook him. The Dane came from far behind and showed patience and staying power. With the right timing, Magnus Cort not only sprints to stage victory, but also to the leader's jersey. Last year he attracted attention because he was allowed to wear the mountain jersey for several days at the Tour de France.
Uno-X does a lot of work
Aware of the responsibility of the yellow jersey, Norwegian team Uno-X controlled the pace in the field for most of the day. When it came to the decisive phase, Ineos Grenadiers took over. In this elimination race, more and more drivers gradually fell behind. Ultimately, the uphill sprint decided the day's victory and the yellow jersey.
