Cycling: Mark Cavendish has found a new team after all. The British champion drives for Astana in 2023.
Cavendish signs for one year
In the past few weeks, the sparrows have already been whistling from the roofs. Now it's official: Mark Cavendish will start for the Kazakh team Astana this season. The British champion's contract was not extended by Quick-Step, as Fabio Jakobsen already has a top sprinter in the squad for the Tour de France. They had to part ways as Mark Cavendish still dreams of becoming the sole record holder for the number of stage wins in the Tour de France. He is currently still level with Eddy Merckx. At Astana he should now get the chance to compete in the Tour de France in 2023.
Astana team boss Alexander Vinokourov:
“Mark is the best sprinter in history and we are delighted to welcome him to our team. He still has a great desire to win races and we will support him in that.”
we welcome @MarkCavendish in our team!
