Cycling: Alberto Bettiol started the season perfectly. The Italian won the prologue of the 23rd Santos Tour Down Under in Adelaide. This means that he will start tomorrow as the overall leader.
Bettiol WINS before Sheffield
With a margin of eight seconds wins Alberto Bettiol (EF Education – EasyPost) the Prologue of the Santos Tour Down Under. The Italian referred the British Magnus Sheffield (INEOS Grenadiers) in second place. The Dane occupied another two seconds behind Julius Johansen (Intermarché – Circus – Wanty) took third place. Marius Mayrhofer (DSM) was the best German in seventh place. The time trial was marked by the rain. Alberto Bettiol also benefited from this. Unfortunately, there were numerous falls in a left-hand bend just before the finish line. The race had to give up – as of now – but at least nobody. Tomorrow the Tour Down Under will continue with a 149,9 kilometer stage starting and finishing in Tanunda.
Tour Down Under: Now it's getting hilly
After the prologue at the start, the Tour Down Under will get down to business in the coming days. The pros travel from Tanunda to Brighton, Victor Harbor, Norwood, Campbelltown, Port Willunga, Willunga Township and Unley to Mount Lofty. Unlike the previous events, however, Willunga Hill is not on the agenda. The round trip will probably not be decided until Sunday, when valuable time gaps could arise again up to Mount Lofty. It seems unlikely that there will be an Australian home win. However, this is already official for women. grace brown (FDJ – SUEZ) won the seventh women's Santos Tour Down Under this Monday with a stage win on the third and final stage.
