Cycling: After the spectacular 14th stage of the Giro d'Italia, the pros won't be able to rest tomorrow. The question arises as to who still has the necessary grains for section 15.
Mountain arrival in Cogne
Nobody was able to rest at the Giro d'Italia today. Team Bora – hansgrohe and the ranked riders themselves made for a spectacular stage. Due to the profile, there is also a chance for an epic battle of climbers tomorrow. The section leads over 177 kilometers from Rivarolo Canavese to Cogne. If the first half of the race can still be described as flat, then in the second part three mountain classifications have to be completed. Points of the first category are awarded in Pila and Verrogne. The final climb belongs to the second category. Although it is only 4,3 percent steep on average, it is a whopping 22,2 kilometers long.
Velomotion forecast: A day for the breakaways
Actually, today was already a day for the breakaways. But Bora – hansgrohe's offensive driving style thwarted the plans of the potential escape groups. Tomorrow this should be different, because the first half of the race comes without a mountain classification. By the first climb, the breakaway group should already be able to show a comfortable lead, so that the favorites let them win the day. After the strenuous 14th stage, it can also be assumed that the classification riders will only fight each other on the 15th section on the final climb. Our pick for tomorrow is Jan Hirt. The Czech is still well placed in the overall standings, but is no longer really within striking distance of the podium. If he goes into the group, he also wins the stage.
☆☆☆ Jan Hirt (Intermarché – Wanty – Gobert Matériaux)
☆☆ Lucas Hamilton (Team BikeExchange – Jayco), Thyman Arensman (DSM)
☆ Filippo Zana (Bardiani – CSF – Faizanè), Lorenzo Fortunato (Eolo – Kometa), Diego Ulissi (UAE)
