Cycling: On the fifth stage tomorrow at the Tour de France an individual time trial is on the agenda. We bet on a win for Wout van Aert, who could also take over the yellow jersey. But the classification drivers also have to be on their guard.
A time trial for the specialists
It's getting serious for the ranking drivers! After two hill stages and two flat stages, the first individual time trial is scheduled for tomorrow. The distance from Changé to Laval is 27,2 kilometers. The terrain is mostly flat, so it should suit time trial specialists. However, there are two small climbs to be overcome. Right at the start, the small hill in La Dombrie (1,0 km a 5,2%) is on the agenda. Shortly before reaching the destination, another mountain (0,3 km a 5,3%) has to be climbed. However, these gentle increases will probably not have any real impact on the result.
The key moments of the 5st stage
- Start in Changé
- First split after 8,8 kilometers in Saint-Jean-Sur-Mayenne
- Second split after 17,2 kilometers in Bonchamp-Les-Laval
- Arrival after 27,2 kilometers in Laval (Espace Mayenne)
Velomotion forecast: Wout van Aert races into the yellow jersey
In the first week of a Tour de France, such a long time trial is on the program for the first time since 2008. The mountain goats will curse this day, the time trial specialists marked this stage red in their calendar months ago. These include the two Swiss Stefan Bissegger and Stefan Küng. They don't have to fear anyone due to the absence of the strong Italian time trialists and are among the top favorites here tomorrow. Most recently, Küng was a little faster than Bissegger, but the form on the day should decide. With our Velomotion tip, however, we go up Wout van Aert. The Belgian can go full throttle tomorrow and may even want to wear the yellow jersey. We believe: He succeeds in winning the day and taking over the overall lead!
☆☆☆ Wout van Aert (Jumbo – Visma)
☆☆ Stefan Küng (Groupama – FDJ), Stefan Bissegger (EF – Nippo)
☆ Victor Campenaerts (Qhubeka NextHash), Max Walscheid (Qhubeka NextHash), Mikkel Bjerg (UAE)
