Cycling: Pello Bilbao has won the fourth stage of the Tour of the Alps. The Spaniard was able to catch up with the leaders Yates/Vlasov on the last descent and finally won the sprint.
Bilbao at risk of stage win
After today's stage, the balance of power in the Tour of the Alps has finally been clarified. Simon yates (BikeExchange) will easily win the tour. In the last climb of today's stage, the Brit was able to do well together with the Russian Alexander Vlasov (Astana – Premier Tech) retire. The two agreed on the descent to the finish, but they were still able to bilbao hair (Bahrain – Victorious) make contact again. The strong downhill skier from Spain immediately raced past the two and pulled through from the front to the finish line. The leg was disappointing for the British team Ineos Grenadiers, who put in a lot of work but were not rewarded in the end. The Irishman had bad luck Daniel Martin (Israel Start-Up Nation), who fell while chasing down the descent and thereby lost all hope of winning the stage.
Froome in the breakaway
On the 168,6 kilometer stretch from Naturns to Pieve di Bono, a breakaway group of 9 broke away at the beginning of the race. The two Austrians were there Felix Grossschartner (Bora – hansgrohe) and Herman Pernsteiner (Bahrain – Victorious), as well as the four-time Tour winner Chris Froome (Israel – Start Up Nation). But before the start of the final climb, the escape group was caught by the peloton. There, the Ineos Grenadiers team pushed the pace so that shortly before the summit only the favorites were among themselves. Stupid run for the British team, because leaders Pavel Shivakov (Ineos Grenadiers) couldn't call more himself than Hugh Carthy (EF – Nippo) launched the first attack.
