Cycling: Wout van Aert won the time trial on the seventh stage of Tirreno – Adriatico. The Belgian relegated Stefan Küng and Filippo Ganna to their places. As expected, Tadej Pogacar could not be denied the overall victory.
Van Aert faster than the world and European champions
Has eight time trials in a row Filippo Gana (Ineos) can decide for themselves. Among other things, the Italian became world champion last year. But today it wasn't just the reigning European champion who put him in his place. The Swiss Stefan Kung (Groupama – FDJ) was 10,1 seconds faster on the 5 kilometer course in San Benedetto del Tronto. Still, it wasn't enough to win. Then wout van aert (Jumbo – Visma) was even faster by a whopping 6 seconds.
Pogacar celebrates overall victory
As expected Tadej pogacar (UAE) no longer take the overall lead in the final time trial. The Slovenian had rolled off the ramp with a comfortable lead and was therefore no longer really vulnerable. Fourth place is enough for the reigning Tour winner in the fight against the clock. Complete the podium of Tirreno – Adriatico 2021 wout van aert (Jumbo – Visma) and Mikel Landa (Bahrain-Victorious).
