Test: Not an e-bike like any other: In the test, the individually designed Pegasus Solero E9 Sport CX proves that a comfortable sitting position and lively handling are by no means mutually exclusive.
Sportiness and a sporty look – the two cannot be separated on a conventional bicycle. When it comes to optimal use of power in terms of maximum speed, posture, aerodynamics and weight distribution must be perfectly coordinated; the racing driver sits low and stretched out on his machine and doesn't care about comfort.
It's different on the e-bike: Where the additional motor takes over a large part of the propulsion, things can get a little comfy. Especially on conventional trekking and touring bikes, which are rarely moved above 25 km/h, up to which the drive supports. Sitting posture can be relaxed-upright, with handlebars curved towards the rider and shock-absorbing saddle tuned for extra comfort. And why shouldn't getting on and off be just as pleasant as sitting or driving?
The Pegasus Solero e9 Sport CX scores in this regard. Of the three frame shapes, the monotube version is probably the most popular – there is no more comfortable way to get on and off the bike. The fact that the battery of the Bosch motor - on the test bike with 500 watt hours, on the basic model for 2.949 euros with a 400 Wh battery - is not completely integrated into the frame is almost another plus point of the Solero, because the frame still looks a bit like that filigree and more harmonious - the voluminous down tube of an Intube frame is not for everyone.
The variant presented here in matt petrol blue (?) seems to us to be extraordinarily successful: no lines are visible on the outside of the down tube, the rear dropouts are elaborately forged and the luggage rack is firmly welded to the frame; Attachments such as the rear stand and the practical frame lock are stable and elegantly integrated.
If you take a closer look, you will discover practical details: System accessories can be locked onto the iRack carrier, and there is even a charging socket at the top of the down tube - the battery does not have to be removed, although this is very easy due to the open design. So in that respect everything is great with the Solero e9 - but what about the drive? This is where the sportiness mentioned at the beginning comes into play, because Pegasus equips the comfortable step-through bike with the most powerful Bosch unit on the market, the Performance Line CX. Its 85 Nm of torque is not only felt when accelerating; The powerful thrust of the compact mid-mounted motor also allows you to move at high speed with little effort on the mountain. Above 25 km/h, the special gear design of the current Bosch unit proves its worth, because engine resistance is hardly noticeable. Of course, the drive does not work completely silently.
With a wide range of nine-speed derailleur gears, powerful brakes - a 180 mm brake disc is installed at the front - and a bright 50-lux spotlight, the sporty, comfortable Pegasus is perfectly tailored to everyday use and touring. In view of the upright sitting position, one obviously misses a spring-loaded seat post, preferably in a parallelogram design. After all, such a component can be retrofitted with minimal effort.
A suspension fork, on the other hand, is of course part of the scope of equipment; With a travel of 63 mm, it offers the usual standard and buffers rough impacts well. So the individually designed e-bike is not just something for riders with special requests; instead, it appeals to those who like it comfortable but also lively.
