Triathlon News / Ironman Hawaii: It won't be long until the big highlight of the triathlon season is on Hawaii again. We answer the most important questions about the Ironman Hawaii 2019 and already dare a brief look at the field of favourites.
When does the Ironman Hawaii 2019 take place?
The Ironman in Hawaii starts next Saturday, October 12, 2019 Central European Time. The starting gun is fired at 18:25 p.m. German time. Based on the winning times from recent years, which were around the 8-hour mark, the winner should be expected to finish at around 2:30 a.m.
Where and when will Ironman Hawaii 2019 be televised?
The sports show will broadcast the start phase of the Ironman live from Kona from 18:25 p.m. The pictures can be seen on both ARD and Hessischer Rundfunk. However, this broadcast is not more than a small foretaste, because the live broadcast on television ends at 18:45 p.m. At 21:45 p.m., the hr changes back to the Ironman Hawaii, around midnight there will also be live pictures on ARD again – then until the finish at around 2:30 a.m.
Is there an Ironman Hawaii 2019 live stream?
Anyone who would like to watch the entire spectacle live from start to finish can access various live streams on the internet again this year. The first point of contact for fans from Germany should be www.sportschau.de where the entire race will be streamed live. As in previous years, Dirk Froberg will be in the commentary booth again in 2019. Ironman Hawaii fans can find an alternative to the sports show live stream on Facebook. Like the other races of the season, the highlight will also be on Iron Man Now to be seen - here of course with English commentary.
Will Jan Frodeno start at the Ironman Hawaii 2019?
Many fans from Germany are primarily concerned with the question of Jan Frodeno starting at the Ironman Hawaii 2019. After the two-time Hawaii winner last year was unable to start due to a stress fracture in his hip, the 38-year-old will be back on the starting line in Kona next Saturday. It should be one of the last opportunities for the exceptional athlete to be crowned winner again in Hawaii. However, the performances of the season so far show that a third win for Frodeno is absolutely within the realm of possibility.
Who are the favorites to win Ironman Hawaii 2019?
Jan Frodeno is definitely one of the favorites this year, but the competition is strong and the field seems tighter than in previous years. Defending champion Patrick Lange despite a rather mixed season so far, is one of them, as is Sebastian Kienle. The latter is difficult to assess after overcoming Achilles tendon problems and a change of coach, but the performances so far this season are promising. In addition to this German trio of favorites, the Canadian Camerontron in particular should have a say in the victory. The ex-professional cyclist was already on course for the podium last year until the man with the hammer caught up with him a little over 10 km before the finish line in the marathon and the 36-year-old saved himself in the end in 9th place.
Speaking of the podium: veteran David McNamee had leased a place on it in recent years. However, the Briton would like to be at the top for the first time in 2019 - the 31-year-old has what it takes. It will also be exciting to see how Bart Aernouts will fare. Last year, the Belgian not only finished second behind Patrick Lange, but like the German, he was also able to undercut the magical 8-hour mark. His performances this season have been promising, but the 35-year-old hasn't completely overcome his swimming weakness. So if Aernouts doesn't lose too much time in the water, he's a clear contender for the podium, maybe even for the win.
