Cycling: After the exciting mountain stage, a less exciting flat stage awaits us tomorrow at the Tour de France. A mass sprint is expected at the finish after 230,0 kilometers.
Too many kilometers for too few highlights
Flat stages are just as much a part of a grand tour of the country as mountain stages. They too can have their charm and create excitement. Tomorrow, however, the pros have had enough 230,0 km to cover without there being any doubt of a mass sprint. The fanatical viewers will still watch the segment in full length. However, the Tour de France will hardly be able to inspire new fans for cycling. As well as Jens Voigt already said, flat stages have to be much shorter, because only then do serious breakaways dare to go into the wind. Tomorrow we will therefore only see a small group fleeing, if at all. It's all about the three mountain classifications in the first half of the race and, of course, the presence of the sponsors. at one mass sprint no one doubts.
Key moments of the 7th stage
- Col de Ferriere (Mountain classification of the 4rd category / 2,7 km at 4,6% / 192,5 km +)
- Cote de Chassagne-Saint-Denis (Mountain classification of the 3rd category / 4,3 km at 4,7% / 134,5 km +)
- Cote de Nans-sous-Sainte-Anne (Mountain classification of the 4rd category / 3,5 km at 5,7% / 110,5 km +)
- sprint score in Mervans (33,5 km +)
Velomotion prognosis: Viviani is currently the strongest
Elia Viviani won his first stage of the Tour de France a few days ago. After a Giro d'Italia without a stage win, this success was particularly important for the Italian. Now he has tasted blood. So we're expecting him up front again tomorrow. However, he has to reckon with numerous competitors. Feels Dylan Groenewegen again, the Dutchman is maybe even faster. But after his fall on the first stage, he doesn't seem to be as lively anymore. Caleb ewan has already disappointed us on two slightly hilly stages. Actually, the little Australian in top form has to be able to get over such small climbs. Peter Sagan is again as strong as usual, but in a totally flat sprint he is Viviani and co. simply inferior. That also applies Alexander Kristoff, Matteo Trentin, Wout van Aert, Sonny Colbrelli and Michael Matthews to. Unfortunately it hasn't even appeared yet Christophe Laporte. The Frenchman should finally be allowed to show himself tomorrow.
☆☆☆ Elia Viviani (Deceuninck – Quick Step)
* * Dylan Groenewegen (Jumbo - Visma), Caleb Ewan (Lotto - Soudal)
* Christophe Laporte (Cofidis), Peter Sagan (Bora – hansgrohe), Alexander Kristoff (UAE Team Emirates)
