Cycling: The Tour de France 2019 inspires cycling fans. In the overall standings it's tighter than ever. Six drivers have a realistic chance of winning the tour. But tomorrow, after the second rest day, it will be the sprinters' turn - for the last time before the final stage on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées.
The sprinters don't want to miss this chance
While numerous riders want to join the leading group on mountain stages, we will probably be able to observe the opposite picture again tomorrow. The 177,0 km long flat stage with Start and finish in Nîmes guarantees one mass sprint. The sprinter teams will of course not miss this opportunity. Since all well-known sprinters are still in the race, it will be an almost hopeless fight for the escapees. Also the Cote de Saint-Jean-du-Pin, which is already crossed 81,0 kilometers before the finish line and anyway only belongs to the fourth category, will not be able to change that.
Key moments of the 16th stage
- sprint score in Vallerargues (112,0 km +)
- Cote de Saint-Jean-du-Pin (Mountain classification of the 4rd category / 1,8 km at 4,2% / 81,0 km +)
Velomotion prognosis: Dylan Groenewegen for the second
Team Jumbo - Visma inspires at this year's Tour de France. After Mike Teunissen's opening win, the yellow-black men also won the team time trial, another stage with Wout van Aert and one with Dylan Groenewegen. We'll bet on the latter tomorrow as well. Because the Dutchman has the highest top speed of all sprinters in the peloton. If his team-mates manage to put him in the spotlight with 300 meters to go, there's no getting past this powerhouse in Nimes. It has its biggest competitors in Caleb ewan and Elia Viviani to fear. But also Peter Sagan must never be underestimated. Of course we would be happy if André Greipel could show again.
☆☆☆ Dylan Groenewegen (Jumbo – Visma)
* * Elia Viviani (Deceuninck - Quick-Step), Caleb Ewan (Lotto - Soudal)
* Peter Sagan (Bora - hansgrohe), Alexander Kristoff (UAE Team Emirates), Sonny Colbrelli (Bahrain - Merida)
