MTB News: Austria's biggest mountain bike festival, the Salzkammergut Mountain Bike Trophy, is a really big event in the diary from July 12th to 14th. Of course, the now 22nd edition is not stingy with numerous competitions. The highlight is the marathon on July 13th, but the other races also promise a lot of fun.
In the marathon, participants can choose between six different distances, depending on their individual performance level. From the short distance over 22 kilometers to the tough 210-kilometer long distance with an unimaginable 7119 meters in altitude, there should be something for every marathonisti. For technically ambitious riders there is also an "All-Mountain" competition with over 55 kilometers. No matter which distance the individual chooses, after the award ceremony, non-cash prizes with a total value of 10.000 euros will be raffled off among all the drivers present.
As part of the trophy, not only the fastest drivers are chosen, but also the slowest groups. Groups with a large number of riders who ride as long distances as possible and make full use of the time limit have an advantage. Another treat is the downhill race for unicyclists on July 12th. The spectacular race with a mass start leads from the Berghotel Predigstuhl along hiking trails. About 4,1 vertical meters are destroyed on the almost 500-kilometer descent. One day later the unicycle marathon riders start. The Austrian champions will be determined in both competitions.
Gravel bikers can look forward to the Cyclocross Marathon powered at Dachstein-Salzkammergut on July 13 in Obertraun. The route is almost identical to the Trophy C route (74 kilometers with 2446 meters in altitude), but due to the omission of the start loop in Obertraun, the course is a bit shorter with fewer meters in altitude. Since nowadays nothing works without an e-bike, there is of course also a special race for e-mountain bikers. For the Bosch eMTB Challenge supported by Trek on July 13, the organizer promises even more riding fun and uphill flow with a changed race format.
