Cycling: Peter Sagan (Bora – hansgrohe) is always in top form at the Tour de Suisse. On today's third stage, the Slovak confidently grabbed the day's win and thus the yellow jersey. Germany's John Degenkolb (Trek - Segafredo) finished third behind Italian Champion Elia Viviani (Deceuninck - Quick-Step).
Sagan really wanted this win
Arriving at the finish of the third stage of the Tour de Suisse was not easy. But exactly such a finish lies Peter Sagan (Borahansgrohe) like no other. When, 200 meters before the finish line, there was a steep uphill climb after a left-hand bend – including cobblestones – the three-time world champion was already in an excellent position. Behind Jasper stuyven (Trek – Segafredo) he turned as the second pro. Then he immediately took the lead and sprinted the remaining 200 meters to the finish. He immediately tore a gap that could no longer be closed. Second in the stage was the Italian champion Elia Viviani (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) before the German John Degenkolb (Trek – Segafredo). With his victory, Peter Sagan also takes over the yellow jersey and the lead in the points classification thanks to the time bonus.
Pellaud was caught as the last escapee
The pros had to cover 200 kilometers from Flamatt to Murten before the last 162,3 meters were about the day's victory. However, the slightly wavy profile does not put any major obstacles in the way of the drivers. With the Dutchman Bert Jan Lindeman (Jumbo – Visma), the Canadian Ryan Anderson (Rally – UHC), the Swiss Simon Pellaud (Swiss national team) and the South African Willie smit (Katusha – Alpecin) four fugitives formed the leading group of the day. Behind them, the Deceuninck – Quick-Step and Bora – hansgrohe teams in particular controlled the pace. In the end it was mainly the German team from Raubling that forced a mass sprint. Six kilometers before the finish, the last attacker was caught in the person of Simon Pellaud - and Peter Sagan was able to complete the preliminary work of his teammates.
