Test / list of the best: Just in time for the start of this year's season, we have another list of the best for you - eleven children's bikes with 20 inch wheels and a sporty orientation. In a direct comparison, a wide variety of concepts collided - in addition to many successful bikes, there are also a few less recommendable models.
In the past few weeks we have looked at almost a dozen children's bikes with 20-inch wheels and of course had them extensively tested by our little experts. For our test field, we explicitly chose slightly sportier bikes – i.e. without mudguards and luggage racks, but with lots of riding fun. Among other things, our test showed that such bikes are a lot of fun for the little ones due to their mostly low weight, but that they can also be fully suitable for everyday use with just a few simple steps.
All test candidates have their wheel size in common: At 20 inches, they should – put simply – be suitable for kids between five and eight years of age or between 115cm and 130cm in height. Depending on the manufacturer, the different frame concepts and geometries allow more or less room for maneuver or adjustments to the changing body size of the children.
In terms of price, everything is included - from the cheap 299 euro model to the noble, expensive 699 children's bike. There are also many facets when it comes to the equipment – be it rim brakes, hydraulic or mechanical disc brakes, narrow road tires, thick plus tires or suspension forks or rigid forks: the selection is huge, and the approaches of the different manufacturers are sometimes very different. There are also big differences in weight: while our gram champion does not weigh 8kg, we also had three test candidates that weighed around 12kg, the same as an adult bike.
With the test starting today, we will be releasing one more test every day for the next ten days. Our list of the best will grow accordingly every day - the final result will be available in just under two weeks. Of course with a summary article from our side.
