Test: In the past, Joe Breezer was best known as a mountain bike pioneer. Over the years, the adventurer specialized more and more in everyday and trekking bikes. MTBs have disappeared from the Breezer range for 2019 - but with the Breezer Liberty S1.3+ they show that Joe also knows how to build great trekking bikes.

When it comes to cable routing, the US supplier takes a different approach: A covered channel on the down tube accommodates the brake line and shifter cables, which is practical for assembly and maintenance on the one hand, but also quite stylish on the other. When it comes to the relatively low price of the Breezer Liberty, the former is certainly relevant - laying hydraulic lines in the frame is complex and drives up costs. The frame has another special feature: the elegant rear dropouts refer to the long and glorious history of the supplier, who was one of the very first mountain bike manufacturers.
In terms of features, the Breezer Liberty S1.3+ is on par with similarly priced rivals. The highlight is the XT rear derailleur, which shifts ten modern sprockets; The Octalink crankset is no longer up-to-date, but functional. The solid Racktime carrier is exemplary, the headlight not too bright. Schwalbe contributes grippy profiled tires that excel on unpaved paths.
Since the top tube is quite long in relation to the head tube, you might be tempted to buy the Breezer in a rather small size. The result is an unsightly spacer tower under the stem; this can then also be angled slightly upwards, since it is adjustable. Anyone who has found a comfortable sitting position can look forward to agile steering behavior, and then smooth running and stability at high speeds. The suspension fork can only be adjusted to a limited extent to the rider's weight due to the steel spring, but it still does a good job. In addition, the gears and brakes work well, resulting in an extremely recommendable trekking bike.
