Cycling: For a long time, the transfer was considered a rumor from reliable sources, but it has only now been officially confirmed. Tony Martin is moving from Team Katusha-Alpecin to Team LottoNL-Jumbo.
Tony Martin & Katusha-Alpecin having a difficult season
Tony Martin is considered one of the best time trialists in the world and a top helper when it comes to sprint preparation. Nevertheless, things did not go ideally for the 33-year-old in 2018. In June, he was able to celebrate his only win of the season at the German Time Trial Championships in Einhausen. Overall, the Katusha-Alpecin team has only had five successes this calendar year. Far too little for such a top team. One reason for the poor result is Marcel Kittel's poor year. The German sprint star only switched to Katusha-Alpecin this season. The two friends Tony Martin and Marcel Kittel really wanted to ride in the same team again. However, they did not become a dream duo. Now their paths separate again. Team LottoNL-Jumbo – which will be called Team Jumbo next year – is looking forward to the new signing.
team manager Richard Plugge:
“Tony was the missing piece of the puzzle. He brings a boatload of experience and is a consummate professional in every respect. He can be of great value in supporting our captains. His signature is also a confirmation of our development over the past few years.”
