Product news: Mavic presents the new Mavic ID 2019 freewheel technology for 360. The freewheel body can be found in cross country, trail, enduro and E-MTB areas. However, Mavic does not use the ID 360 freewheel on the Mavic Deemax DH wheels.
Mavic ID 360 Freehub Technology 2019
Mavic ID 360 freewheel technology is implemented on all MTB wheelsets in 2019 (except Deemax DH). The new Instant Drive 360 freewheel technology is super light, fast and engages at just 9 °. A large non-contact rubber seal ensures low friction, while a wide range of end caps provide great versatility.
- The oversized aluminum axle and the hardened aluminum freewheel body save up to 40g
- The 40 tooth dual ratchet system offers a quick 9° engagement
- The radial seal offers low friction for higher speed and perfect watertightness
- Comprehensive end cap adapters make it compatible with any type of restraint and driver housing (QR, 12×142, HG, XD…)
Cross Country
Cross Country requires a light tyre, a light rim and higher pressure for low rolling resistance, the focus is on climbing speed. Weight is the priority here. Rim widths of 22-25mm are used here.
Mavic Crossmax Elite Carbon 2019
With a full carbon rim and all the latest trail technologies, this race-ready UST wheel delivers top-level performance at an affordable price. For the 27.5 version, the Mavic Crossmax weighs only 1600g, the Mavic Crossmax Elite Carbon helps you accelerate at amazing speeds and climb steep hills with less effort. The rims should have the perfect balance between lateral stiffness and compliance in order to have the perfect grip on roots and to be able to stay on track. The Mavic wheels have been optimized and built wider (26mm internal) to squeeze out the most performance from 2.1" to 2.35" XC tires. The rims are laced with a two-cross spoke pattern front and rear for maximum control while riding.
Price: 1399 euros
Weight: 27.5-1600g / 29-1675g
Trail
Trail riders need a forgiving tire/rim combination. The tire is wider than a pure cross country tire and must offer comfort and safety. The wide tire requires a wide rim and high shock absorption, even with a light tire and low pressure. In the trail area, rims with a width of 30-40 mm are used.
Mavic XA 35 Pro Carbon 2019
This new tubeless ready carbon wheelset features advanced materials for a dynamic trail bike. For riders who like the feel of wide rims, the all-new Mavic XA 35 Pro carbon wheel offers a dynamic ride quality with the perfect balance of lateral and vertical stiffness. Full carbon rims increase lateral rigidity while keeping weight to a minimum. This gives the biker more control and agility on rough, technical trails and helps climb more efficiently. The Mavic XA 35 wheelset features a new 35mm wide (internal) carbon rim. In addition, the carbon layup process has been improved, which further improves vertical stiffness. The wide UST Tubeless Ready rim profile lets you drive wider tires. The Mavic XA 35 Pro Carbon is only available for 27.5 wheels and is only compatible with the Boost standard.
Price: 1799 euros
Weight: 27.5 – 1645g
Mavic XA Elite Carbon 2019
Light, strong and engineered to provide an excellent ride quality on the toughest trails. The advantages of carbon rims are now well known: they are light and extremely stiff. However, a wheel must not be too stiff, otherwise traction will be lost. With this wheelset, Mavic wants to improve the vertical stiffness and thus improve the ride quality. A lot was tested with experienced test drivers to find the perfect lay-up of the carbon fiber. The rims have an asymmetrical shape and are now 30mm wide. Mavic uses 24 straight-pull spokes to expand lateral stiffness and vertical compliance. The hubs are equipped with the new ID 360 freewheel. The rims are designed for 6-hole brake discs and are compatible with all common axle standards.
Price: 1399 euros
Weight: 27.5 – 1650g / 29 – 1715g
Enduro
Enduro and DH require tires with stronger, thicker sidewalls to avoid pinching and cuts. There is a need for stability for more aggressive driving. Combined with a medium-wide rim, this results in low to medium pressure compatibility and very good shock absorption. Rim widths of 25-30 mm are used here.
Mavic Deemax Elite 2019
This new enduro wheel is light, strong and designed for tough enduro adventures. The new Mavic Deemax Elite wheelset offers a cutting-edge design. The 30mm wide rims are specially built for wide tires from 2,25" up to 3,0". The rims are designed with enough vertical compliance to absorb shock and not damage the tire. The innovative ISM 4D rim technology removes excess material, making the rims as light as possible and without loss of strength. The rims are constructed with 28 steel, double butted spokes front and rear and come with a tubeless tape. Tubeless brings better traction, better ride quality and reduces the risk of breakdowns. This wheelset aims to be the perfect companion for aggressive riders who race enduro or hit the bike park.
Price: 629 euros
Weight: 27.5-1945g / 29-2040g
E-MTB
E-MTB wheels need reinforced rims and hubs due to the additional weight and high torque. Rim widths of 30-40 mm are also used here.
Mavic E-XA35 2019
The Mavic E-XA 35 was specially developed for the e-bike sector and meets the requirements of tires up to 3,2 inches wide. The wheelset is a mix of cross country, trail and e-bike specific features needed including PFP (Pinch Flat Protection). The added weight and torque associated with e-bikes calls for a super strong and durable wheelset. The Mavic E-XA 35 is built on an extra wide, light and durable rim with a 35 mm inner ring. The rim features a unique asymmetrical shape. The PFP sidewall reduces the risk of punctures or rim damage caused by stones or other obstacles. The rims are UST Tubeless Ready and are built with 28 straight pull spokes front and rear.
