Cycling: Julian Alaphilippe (Quick-Step Floors) has won the tenth stage of the Tour de France. The Frenchman proved to be the strongest professional in a breakaway group of 21 men at the start and finally won as a soloist in Le Grand-Bornand. Another impressive performance was shown by Greg Van Avermaet (BMC). The man in yellow was also part of the leading group and thus defended the overall lead. The favorites for overall victory, on the other hand, held back.
Yellow & Green in the breakaway
The Tour de France has reached the mountains. On the first Alpine stage, 158,5 kilometers had to be covered from Annecy to Le Grand-Bornand. As you might expect, numerous professionals wanted to be part of the top flight. after himself Julian Alaphilippe (Quick-Step Floors) secured the mountain point at the Col de Bluffy, a 21-strong group formed. The green one was also there Peter Sagan (Bora-hansgrohe) and the yellow one greg van avermaet (BMC). While the world champion did not let himself be taken away from the sprint classification in Thônes and some breakaways were supposed to take on tactical tasks, quite a few riders flirted with the stage victory. The French wildcard team Direct Energie is once again aiming for the mountain jersey. At the Col de la Croix Fry, their driver was again at a disadvantage. Deer Taaramae had to rudy molard give way, who thus took the lead in the mountain classification. In the peloton, Team Sky seized control.

Much dirt about nothing
As expected, a few riders from the breakaway group flew in the rock-hard Montée du plateau des Glières (top category / 6,0 km at 11,2%). The mountain classification went on Julian Alaphilippe in david gaudi, which heralded an exciting duel between the two Frenchmen for the mountain jersey. TV viewers were presented with great pictures on the two-kilometre-long gravel road on the plateau. Scenes from the French Resistance during World War II were recreated by a group of actors. In a sporting sense, nothing else should happen. A defect of Chris Froome (Sky) was quickly rectified, allowing the four-time Tour de France winner to get back on track. Now it was about 50 kilometers flat, downhill or only slightly uphill to complete. In this phase of the race, due to the lack of follow-up work in the peloton, it was announced that today's stage winner would come from the leading group.

Alaphilippe takes stage win & mountain jersey, Van Avermaet stays in yellow
Already at the foot of the Col de Romme attacked in the leading group Purely Taaramae, in the peloton Warren Barguil (Fortuneo-Samsic). While the latter was immediately caught by the sky train, the leader was accompanied by Julian Alaphilippe. The French left the Estonian behind, secured the maximum number of points and thus took the lead in the mountain classification. Since Julian Alaphilippe was still around six minutes ahead of the peloton at the beginning of the Col de la Colombière (1st category / 7,5 km at 8,5%), the stage win was already taken. In addition to the day's victory, the Frenchman can also look forward to the mountain jersey, because of course he also won the last mountain classification of the day. With his first success in the Tour de France, he also ensured the first French victory of this edition. Second place at the finish of Le Grand-Bornand went to Ion Izaguirre in Queen Taaramae and Greg Van Avermaet. The Belgian thus defended his yellow jersey – a strong performance!
No major attack by the favorites
In the Col de la Colombière, too, the Sky Train drove everything from the front. More and more people couldn't keep up with the pace. The first Alpine stage of the 2018 Tour de France turned into a real elimination race. Just before the summit lost among other things Rigoberto Urán (EF Education) and Bob jungels (Quick-Step Floors) the connector. by an attack by Daniel Martin (UAE Team Emirates) got it too Rafal Mayka (Bora-hansgrohe), Build Mollema (Trek Segafredo) and Ilnur Zakarin (Katusha-Alpecin). In the end, these drivers lost 51 seconds, Rigoberto Uran even 2:36 minutes. Not much more should happen until the finish line among the favorites. As expected, things won't get down to business until Wednesday and Thursday. Alexis Vuillermoz (AG2R La Mondiale) and Jens Keukeleire (Lotto Soudal) will then no longer be there. Both pros didn't start today's stage due to injuries.
