Cycling: Things are not going well for the Katusha-Alpecin team. After Marcel Kittel has not found his top form on any sprint stage, Tony Martin now has to give up the Tour de France injured. On the eighth stage, the 33-year-old fell and fractured his vertebrae.
Tony Martin crashes 17km from the finish
The Tour de France 2018 becomes a fall festival. Falls seem to be happening every day, much more frequently than has been the case in the past. On the eighth stage got it Tony Martin (Katusha-Alpecin). The multiple time trial world champion could no longer avoid the mass fall and also fell to the ground. As it was determined after the race, he broke a vertebra. He also tore his lip, left shoulder and elbow. Then the bad news in the evening: Tony Martin cannot continue the Tour de France. Ironically, before the stage on cobblestones, the German had to give up.
Tony Martin:
“Everyone fell before me. I went over it at a relatively high speed. There was nothing I could do about it. I'm not doing well. I just had my lip sewn up and I have quite a lot of pain in the chest area.”
