Cycling: Peter Sagan (Bora-hansgrohe) is a trendsetter. When it comes to clothing, however, he has remained true to his taste for years. He prefers to exchange his world champion jersey for the green jersey. He has now broken a record at the Tour de France – that of Erik Zabel.
Peter Sagan: 90 Days in Green
All in the green with Peter Sagan. The world champion is also well on his way to the Tour de France 2018 Green jersey of the best points to win. He is 33 points ahead of his only remaining competitor, Fernando Gaviria (Quick-Step Floors). After his victories on the second stage and the fifth stage he is wearing the Maillot Vert for the 90th time in his career this Thursday. Previously held the record at 89 days in green Eric Zabel. The German sprinter won the green jersey six times in a row between 1996 and 2001 and is therefore the record winner to this day. Peter Sagan has dominated the points classification at the Tour de France for six years. His success story began in Seraing in 2012. He was only prevented from doing so last year because he - completely wrongly - disqualified after the fourth stage wurde.
Can Fernando Gaviria stop Peter Sagan?
The experts know: Peter Sagan is not a pure sprinter. He proved this once more on yesterday's fifth stage. While his opponents were distanced early on in flat sprints, the Slovak won the hilly stage almost effortlessly. The problem: Sections that are not classified as purely flat stages earn significantly fewer points. Peter Sagan secured 30 points for his win yesterday, during Fernando Gaviria previously received a whopping 50 for his triumph. Nevertheless, Peter Sagan is the clear favorite for the green jersey. He could take another important step on the way to Roubaix on Sunday. While he's being tipped as a winning contender, Fernando Gaviria doesn't seem to have much ambition. The Colombian only becomes dangerous if he can win three or four more flat stages. And even then Sagan can still answer in the mountains. After all, the green jersey suits him best.
Second stage win at #TDF2018 and Maillot Vert #90! It wasn't easy and it would have been impossible without the tremendous effort of the @BORAhansgrohe Squad! @BORAGmbH @Hansgrohe_PR @iamspecialized @sportful https://t.co/uK4QWm4mrQ
