Cycling: Astana dominates the Tour of the Alps. After the first two stages went to the Kazakh team, the fourth stage has now also been secured. This time old master Luis Leon Sanchez was allowed to cheer. Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) was able to defend his overall lead.
Astana dominates the stages of the Tour of the Alps - but Pinot stays ahead
From Klausen to Lienz, the pros had to cover 134,3 kilometers today. Again it was not an issue for the sprinters, but that was not to be expected anyway on a tour called "Tour of the Alps". Instead, the focus today was on the climbers and class riders. In the last climb - a mountain of the second category - there were numerous attacks. Chris Froome (Sky) and Fabio Aru (UAE Team Emirates) also tried their luck. But both could not solve decisively. On the descent down to the finish, the Astana team played out their numerical superiority and sent Luis Leon Sanchez on the offensive. The Spaniard was able to win the stage while Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) defended his leader's jersey.
