Cycling: Dylan Groenewegen (LottoNL-Jumbo) clinched his second win of the season at the Volta ao Algarve. After the Dutchman already the first leg of the Dubai Tour won, he seems to have mastered the jetlag with flying colors and has now also won in Portugal. In the mass sprint he left the French champion Arnaud Démare (Groupama-FDJ) behind. John Degenkolb (Trek-Segafredo) finished sixth.

Groenewegen stays cool – Démare doesn't
From Albufeira to Lagos, 192,6 kilometers had to be covered at the start of the Volta ao Algarve today. Joshua Zabala (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA), Nuno Alexandre Ferreira de Almeida (La Aluminios), David Da Silva Livramento (Sporting Tavira) Luis Afonso (Vito Feirense BlackJack) and João Rodrigues (W52-FC Porto) escaped early. But they couldn't really hope for a day's win because the peloton wanted to force a mass sprint. The Groupama-FDJ team took over the last few kilometers. Probably a bit too early, because you Sprinter Arnaud Demare had no man in front of him too soon and had to start the sprint too early. Dylan Groenewegen however, waited and then sprinted past the French champion. The Dutchman himself had to bite a lot in the last few meters, because Démare, on the other hand, was now threatening to slip out of his slipstream. Ultimately, however, it was just enough for Groenewegen to win the exciting duel.
