Product news: The topic of brakes on racing bikes has been more topical than ever since disc brakes were also introduced on the road. But things are not only happening in terms of disc brakes, but also in the area of rim brakes. With the new SRAM S-900 Direct Mount, the component manufacturer presents its latest model in terms of rim brakes.
The SRAM S-900 is the first direct mount brake in the SRAM portfolio. The aim was to develop a rim brake that can implement enormous braking power and superior response. The synchronizer, which aligns the brake pads for even engagement, has a slightly offset rather than central design. This reduces the spreading force or the energy that is now wasted in the frame or in the fork instead of in the brake calipers. The result is excellent modulation with decent stopping power. You never feel a spongy feeling. In addition, the tire clearance of up to 28mm, which is becoming increasingly important these days, is possible without any problems. In addition, the pads can also be used with the latest, wide rims. The brake set weighs only 326g. The SRAM S-900 brakes are compatible with all mechanical SRAM brake levers, including SRAM RED eTap and thus offer a complete SRAM package for every bike.
The SRAM S-900 Direct Mount is already being used by KATUSHA ALPECIN in the WorldTour races and will be available in stores from March 2018. In particular, the advantages such as more feel, power and modulation with faster brake lever return and greater tire clearance for modern wheelsets make the brakes an optimal competition device.
