MTB sport: While the slopestyle elite were fighting for the maximum number of points at the White Style in Leogang last Friday, the Scott Snow Downhill Race next door was all about setting the fastest time in the snow. The race was also the second stop of the Reverse Components Snow Milling Cup and after mine fourth place in the opening race in Lienz So it was for me to collect points for the overall ranking. Almost 50 participants did the same and braved the cold winter temperatures.
You can follow the race from my point of view again in this video report.
After half an hour of training, the first qualifying session was at the starting gate, with the fastest 16 men and 4 women qualifying for the KO duels. Johannes Hägele set the best time for the men. Favorite Paula Zimbasa won the women's ranking. After I had to take a snow test right in the first corner, I was trembling. In the end I slipped down to 15th place and was able to secure a place for the KO rounds.
After many exciting head-to-head duels in the KO rounds on the course built by Reini Leitner, I had to admit defeat in the final run against the qualification winner Johannes Hägele. Peter Fernbach secured third place in the small final. Manuel Widmann, winner of the opening race in Lienz, had to hand over his lead in the intermediate classification to me after finishing seventh. In the women's ranking, Paula Zimbasa was able to confirm her best time in qualifying and secured the podium place ahead of Celine Blochberger and Nina Hofer.
