The Spanish Movistar team has won the start of the new Hammer Series in the Netherlands. In the 77-kilometre Vaals hillclimb, Movistar collected 144,8 points. The German team Sunweb followed Giro winner Tom Dumoulin in second place with 98,9 points, third was Sky (84,7) ahead of Orica-Scott (83,3).
With the win, Movistar also secured a 15-second bonus for the team pursuit on Sunday. Sunweb received twelve seconds, Sky, ten.
“We drove great as a team. Our goal was to win this competition”; said Carlos Betancur (Movistar), who was the first to cross the finish line after 77 kilometers. "It was a crazy race, full throttle all day," added teammate Marc Soler. The three-day event will continue with a sprint competition tomorrow, Saturday.
