Cycling: This Tuesday, the 100 kilometer individual time trial from Foligno to Montefalco is on the program for the 39,8th Giro d'Italia. After the hard mountain arrival on the 9st stage and the rest day there is some news. We also present you with the start times for the fight against the clock.
Matteo Pelucchi opens – Tom Dumoulin is considered the clear favourite
As usual, the drivers start in the reverse order of the overall standings. Accordingly, the Italian Matteo Pelucchi (Bora-hansgrohe) will open the fight against the clock at 12:45. The pilots take to the track at intervals of one minute. At 15:39, Adam Yates (Orica-Scott) will roll off the launch pad and the interval will increase from one minute to three. Then it's hit and miss. The top 15 in the overall standings start the time trial. Top favorite Tom Dumoulin (Sunweb) starts the race at 16:18 p.m., Thibaut Pinot (FDJ) at 16:21 p.m. and Nairo Quintana (Movistar) at 16:24 p.m. All start times for the time trial can be found here. There is little doubt that Tom Dumoulin will win this Giro d'Italia time trial. Even though he improved a lot on the mountain, he should have retained his time trial skills to some extent. Bob Jungels (Quick-Step Floors), Vasil Kiryienka (Sky) and Geraint Thomas (Sky) could also be up front.
Wilco Kelderman is out - Mikel Landa is still fighting
Team Movistar has a lot to celebrate at the Giro d'Italia. Nairo Quintana has demonstrated he is in excellent shape and capable of winning the Tour. A day earlier, his teammate Gorka Izagirre received on the 8st stage a free ticket and used it to win the stage. So far, things have been going much less well for Team Sky. The two classification riders Geraint Thomas and Mikel Landa fell on the ninth section due to the support motorcycle and are now far behind in the overall standings. Thomas will continue and is at least within striking distance of the podium with a little more than 5 minutes behind. Landa, on the other hand, complains of severe pain in his left leg. It is questionable whether the Spaniard will continue. Wilco Kelderman (Sunweb) also fell and has already retired from the Giro d'Italia. The Dutchman broke his finger and will therefore miss Tom Dumoulin as an important helper, especially in the mountains.
