Inside Blog: After a rather disappointing start to this year's Cape Epic for all bulls, things now seem to be turning positive – at least for Karl Platt and Urs Huber. Karl seems to have found his form just in time and the fight for the podium places is on. Simon Stiebjahn from Team BULLS II had to deal with a technical defect that was unusual even for the notorious Cape Epic.
The day before yesterday, last year's winner Karl Platt sent a virtual missing person report for his legs to the public via Instagram. It seems to have helped - on yesterday's stage, the successful duo from Team BULLS I was able to keep up with the leaders and only lost a little time to the day's winners. The two marathon specialists are now mainly focusing on today's stage of more than 100km, where they can show their strengths compared to the racers in the field. Even though the gap in the overall standings has grown to over 15 minutes, podium places are still within reach and the Cape Epic writes its own rules anyway.
Simon Stiebjahn from Team BULLS II, on the other hand, had a day to forget. After his partner Tim always had big problems with the heat on the previous days, the support team now had to deal with an extremely unusual technical defect. Simon's crank arm kept saying goodbye - desperate and frustrated in the middle of the dusty racing action, the two kept tightening the screws and made it to the finish line. In the team's more than ten-year history, such a defect has never happened - but if it doesn't happen at Cape Epic, then nowhere.
