Inside Blog: Since the start of Cape Epic we have been following ProjectZebra and Team BULLS in South Africa. So far, the BULLS Curly Girls - the women's team that started for the first time this year - have not had enough. After a few problems on the first few days, Isabella Struck and Katrin Benz have now found their rhythm and are even in the top 20 of the women's ranking.
The two of them probably didn't expect that at first. Isabella and Katrin approached the Cape Epic adventure with respect and almost in awe. This is the first participation for both halves of the BULLS Curly Girls this year, so right from the start it was all about coping with the conditions and adapting to the enormously high demands. On the first few days, the heat in particular took its toll and the two had to drag themselves to the finish line with their last ounce of strength every day - but that was the case for most of the competitors in the field and that's why the duo was able to make it into the top 30 of the women's field right from the start hold.
Now that the temperatures have dropped a bit over the past few days and Katrin and Isabella have found their pace and adjusted to the Cape Epic, things are going better and better. The two debutants have even made their way firmly into the top 20 in the women's classification and will most likely be able to finish the race with an excellent result. A huge success for the team and for the two personally.
Things are also going well for the men: Even if overall victory and a podium place for the two defending champions Karl Platt and Urs Huber are becoming increasingly unlikely, the two have now found each other and cross the line every day as one of the ten best teams. Tomorrow on the king's stage you will try everything again - because at the Cape Epic you never know what will happen and maybe you can get close to the podium again.
