Inside Blog: It was a brutal day at Cape Epic 2017. All riders suffered from the extreme heat and tough track. Despite all the routine and intensive preparation, the drivers from Team BULLS also had to pay their tribute. Tim Böhme in particular had to struggle and fought his way to the finish with his last ounce of strength. Karl Platt and Urs Huber lose a few minutes to the top, but remain calm for the time being.
This sport can be so brutal. After the prologue yesterday, one of the most difficult stages of this year's Cape Epic was on the agenda today. Both men's teams were able to put themselves in a very promising position at the start and went into the first stage with a lot of motivation and confidence. At well over 30°C again, Karl Platt and Urs Huber from the BULLS I team were able to keep up with the pace at the front for a long time until Karl got some problems on the last climb and lost time. In the end, the duo were a little more than five minutes behind the two stage winners, Manuel Fumic and Henrique Avancini, and the time mortgage in the overall ranking grew to just over eight minutes. No reason to stick your head in the sand, however – Karl and Urs already have enough racing experience and know very well that the billing is only settled at the end.
The support team with Tim Böhme and Simon Stiebjahn had a particularly difficult day. Especially Tim made it to the finish on the literally last groove; "30km before the finish, my energy tanks were empty and the "man with the hammer" beat me tirelessly... Simon came to my aid, but the "man" was stronger." he writes disappointed on his Facebook page in the evening - but also adds with a view to tomorrow: "New game New luck."
